big buddha in thailand

( The article in french is there)

In Thailande, there are statues called Big Buddha. The highest statue of Big Buddha in Thailand, is 92 m, it is the 8th largest statue in the world.

SHORT STORY:There're about 12 years old, a group of friends walked through the forest situated on  Nakkerd Hills, in the hills between Chalong and Kata. At the top, they realize that the site offers a magnificent view of the island, not only on the southeast part and Chalong Bay but also on the west side of the island, overlooking Kata, Karon and the Andaman sea. They decided that first there should be a monument simply showing what you can see on the island .Over time , they all became aware that this place in the mountains, could become a great place not only for a beautiful view of the south of the island, but also for a project much more ambitious for the Buddhists that lived on the island. The idea to build a Giant Buddha was born. The " Faith Foundation" was created to oversee the construction and raise funds for this superstructure officially named "Phra Buddha Puttamingmongkol Akenakkiri" but more commonly known as "Big Buddha".The construction was financed exclusively through private donations. Enthusiasm for the project enabled a quick cash crop. Financial assistance came from around the world. Thais, tourists, and through articles in the press, donations from around the country have come to the foundation. The project encountered some difficulties, especially that of the deforestation of part of the mountain, then to obtain a building permit in the middle of a virgin forest. In Phuket, the regulations impose a maximum height for buildings, but ultimately, permissions were obtained for the construction can begin.Today, the Big Buddha of Phuket is almost finished. It remains only to arrange the interior of the Great Buddha and its surroundings.
